ORU Fogar held last 24th of April in Rabat, Morocco, the first ordinary meeting of its Executive Bureau in 2017. Hosted and chaired by Abdessamad Sekkal, President of ORU Fogar and of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Regional Council, the meeting served to prepare the General Assembly to be held in the Basque Country at the end of 2017, to ratify the reform of ORU’s Articles of Association, to evaluate the 2016 Action Plan and to present the 2017 program, among other internal issues.

The meeting was also an opportunity to follow-up the implementation of the agreements between ORU and ILO, thanks to which two pilot projects have been implemented in the Province of Azuay (Ecuador) and in the Department of Koungheul (Senegal); UNDP, with whom ORU coincides at the Executive Committee of the Local Economic Development (LED) Forums in Cochabamba and Cape Verde and with whom co-organises the Regional Best Practices Awards; and FAO, the agreement with whom was signed in 2010 is expected to be renewed.

After that, the main novelties in the 2017 agenda were presented: management of the Rural Development and Post-Conflict Territories at the LED Forums in Cochabamba and Cape Verde, on the one hand, and the commitment to submit at the New York High-level Political Forum (HLPF) (10-19 July), together with nrg4SD, a report on the involvement of regions in the State Reviews regarding SDG implementation. In this regard, and within the framework of ORU Fogar’s Food Security Work Group led by the Azuay Province, the Prefect Paúl Carrasco added another event in the organisation’s agenda: the Food Security Summit to be held in Cuenca in April 2018.

The session finished with the adoption of five new accessions to the organisation: Governorate of the Anjouan Island (Comoros), Department of Kaolack (Senegal), Western Cape Province (South Africa), Boucle de Mouhoun region (Burkina Faso) and Reunion Island (France).
