During the month of May, members of ORU Fogar participated in two virtual workshops organized in collaboration with UN-Habitat’s City Resilience Global Programme (CRGP). Under the theme "How to Face Risks", the sessions provided key tools and knowledge to strengthen resilience, understood as the capacity of any territorial system, together with its inhabitants, to maintain continuity in the face of shocks and stresses, while adapting and positively transforming toward sustainability.
The event is part of the ongoing collaboration between ORU Fogar and the City Resilience Global Programme, an initiative launched by UN-Habitat in 2013 to respond to the urgent need to build local capacities for urban resilience. The program promotes a multi-risk, multi-stakeholder, and multi-sectoral urban systems approach that is accessible to all cities and regions. Over more than a decade, the CRGP has benefited over 40 million people through risk reduction initiatives and has built a network of over 50 international partners and more than 80 supported governments and municipal councils.
The workshops were initiated by Carles Llorens, Secretary General of ORU Fogar. This was followed by presentations from Fanny Magini, Head of Partnerships and Advocacy at the CRGP, and Lucía Aizpiri, an urban resilience consultant. Both sessions included a general overview of the global impact of the CRGP, an explanation of the different dimensions of resilience, and a detailed presentation of its methodology and implementation phases. As a practical case, the application of the program in Terres de l’Ebre (Catalonia) was showcased, addressing stress factors such as climate change, economic diversification, and infrastructure gaps.
The events concluded with an interactive dialogue and Q&A session, allowing participants to share concerns and enrich collective learning. Due to the success of these initial sessions, new editions of the workshop are planned to continue strengthening resilience capacities among ORU Fogar members.
